Charming Tourist Attractions To Visit In Fort William, Scotland

By Michael Simpson

Now that Inverness is a city, Fort William is now the largest town in the Highlands of Scotland. The town is an incredibly popular tourist center with a great many folk arriving to go hill walking on Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the United Kingdom.

In the article below I take a look at three different tourist attractions well worth visiting if you are taking a weekend break in Fort William.

The Thought Invoking West Highland Museum

Founded in 1922 was the West Highland Museum in Fort William. A group of people from Lochaber wanted to create a museum, about life in the Highlands, for the people of the Highlands. The current building was purchased in 1926 from the British Linen Bank, and is located in Cameron Square, just off the Hight Street. Fascinating and small is how many people describe the museum. The exhibits in the museum present a fascinating look into the way of life in the West Highlands throughout the years. Folk from all walks of life are represented, through the superb collections of photograph's, artefact's and picture's

The Splendid Old Inverlochy Castle

There are two Inverlochy Castle's in Fort William, the Old Inverlochy Castle and the new Victorian, chateau-style Inverlochy Castle, built in the village of Torlundy (which is now a luxury hotel). The Old castle was said to of been constructed between 1270-1280, by John "the Black" Comyn, Lord of Badenoch and Lochaber, and chief of the Clan Comyn. Although the castle is in ruins, the layout hasn't altered very much since it was constructed. Lord Abinger carried out alterations and enhancements to the house, for a visit by Queen Victoria. Old Inverlochy Castle is still an important part of English and Scottish history, due to the role it played during the Civil Wars of the 1640's.

The Fascinating Jacobite Steam Train

A trip on the Jacobite Steam Train, is an exhilarating way to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Highlands. The Fort William to the Mallaig journey takes you on a magical trip through the glens. One of the most riveting parts of the ride is traveling across the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which the majority of travelers will know due to the fact that it was used in the movies of the exploits of Harry Potter and his friends. The 84 mile excursion takes you past Loch Morar, Ben Nevis and Loch Nevis, with a break in Glenfinnan before arriving in Mallaig. There is about an hour and half in which to discover Mallaig, before the return journey, back to Fort William. This journey has repeatedly been declared, one of the Great Railway Journeys of the globe.

Fort William has lots more nearby visitor attractions but large numbers visitors choose to make Fort William a base for a touring vacation of the Scottish Highlands. An incredibly popular vacation destination is Inverness and a cool thing to do it spend some time in both. Nearly all places you visit will have masses of leaflets showing countless other tourist attractions nearby so there is always lots to see and do.

You See GPS Units Everywhere You Go Now Days

By Larry Hoperty

One of the top GPS companies is Mio and they make devices that are trendier than some of the ones from other manufacturers. GPS devices are very popular with the younger crowd and they gravitate toward units that look stylish and cool. With the advancement of GPS technology, more and more people use it and GPS units are now commonplace wherever you go.

When it comes to GPS technology and devices, you have to list Garmin at the top. Their name is the most recognizable and their devices are all top notch. Unfortunately, it is difficult to ever find them on sale as this company is trying to protect its name from ever being considered a discount brand.

GPS devices have increased in popularity as more and more people think of new uses for them. It seems they are still a bit on the expensive side but those people who do use them don't seem to mind. The newer units have a directional system that has a voice telling you where to go. This is very nice for use in a car because you can just listen for the voice directions and not have to take your eyes off the road to look at the map.

You can buy a new or used GPS unit online at many different websites and that is your best chance of finding any type of deal. Unfortunately, there are not too many meaningful discounts being offered as GPS units are still rather new to consumers and the manufacturers dont have much incentive to offer them. GPS devices are also sold in most electronics stores but a sale there would be real difficult to find.

GPS devices now have all sorts of extra little things that make them more advanced than the older models but you want to make sure you don't pay for something more expensive than what you really need. GPS units are now quite common place in cars but you might want to get one with sound instructions as that is the safest for someone who is driving. If you feel you need a GPS unit, try to find one that will satisfy your needs for a long time because they are still rather pricey.

Four Things To Remember When Buying Trampoline Pads

By Timothy Cohen

Trampolines are great additions to your yard. Children would have a good time jumping and up down with you or with their parents. You can also utilize it as one of your exercise equipment. With it, you can learn more about balance. However, trampolines can also cause injuries, especially if you or someone hits the frame. What you need then is trampoline pads, as precaution to avoid major accident.

However, how do you exactly choose them? Fortunately, there are guides that are available for you.

The topmost thing to consider is the size of the pad that you are going to buy. As much as possible, it must be able to hug your trampoline perfectly. It must not be too small that frames can go out of the trampoline pads anytime. You also do not want something that is too loose that you would not be able to tie the pad properly into the trampoline.

The color should also be a deciding factor. Though different shades can always give a whole new look and appeal to the trampoline, they should still have some function. One of these is that they must provide distinction between the trampoline and the pads themselves. This way, you will have an idea where the frames are. Bright ones are preferred to, since they tend to still be very visible even when exposed under the light of the sun.

You also need trampoline pads that are durable. They can actually be costly, and you want to make the most of your investments. Since pads may have to be used outdoors, you need those that can withstand environmental elements such as snow and intense heat. Thus, settling for those that are made of UV-resistant materials could be a nice idea, since they do not easily give in to fading or wear because of sun exposure. You also have to look for those that do not absorb water. Moisture can weaken the foam.

Thick trampoline pads are always a better choice. After all, you are looking for cushion if you happen to bump your head on the sides of the trampoline or on to the frames. With thicker pads, you're assured that you don't have to suffer head injuries or trauma. Thickness can be from 20 mm to more than that.

You can't put your and your loved ones' lives at risk. Protect them from accidents with the best trampoline pads.

Film Adaptations From Magnificent Children's Books

By Patricia K Johnson

A lot of much-loved family movies were firstly beloved family books. A lot of family books that have been around for a very long time have been made into movies at diverse times in the past. Most of the films can stand on their own and the majority of the books were previously classics. How narrowly do the movies storylines follow the books?

A current movie adaptation from a children's book is "The Spiderwick Chronicles" by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. There are in fact 5 books in the series but just the individual motion picture so far. The film follows the adventure of a family unit as they go into a new home. The kids find a eccentric old book that leads them to a world with elves, goblins, trolls, dwarves and other creatures. The movie is from 2008.

A great kids book that has been made into a duo of movies all through the years is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl. The book was first published in 1964 and in 1971 the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka came out. Another movie called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" came out in 2005, with Johnny Depp playing the lead of Willy Wonka. Both films were quite spot on to the book.

In 1952, the writer, E.B. White brought us one of the most favorite children's stories of all time with "Charlotte's Web". The book has remained in print continuously since its first printing. An animated movie of "Charlotte's Web" was released in 1973. In December 2006, a live action film version was released. Both movies followed the original story accurately.

Dr. Seuss is one of the most beloved children's writers of all times. A few of his books have been made into impressive films. "Horton Hears a Who" came out in 2008 with Jim Carrey as the voice of Horton. This is an cartoon feature film that follows the storyline of the book nearly exactly.

An extra Seuss book, "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" had an cartoon adaptation that came out in 1966. It followed the book very nearly exactly. However, the big budget movie of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" from 2000 added many new scenes and events. The film "The Cat In The Hat" which came out in 2003 also made many changes from the book.

Perhaps the most admired kids books that have been made into films is the "Harry Potter" series. Six of the seven books have been made into movies with the final volume in series intended to become two films for a total of 8 films from the Harry Potter series. These movies are one of the highest grossing film series in times gone by, exceeded by only the James Bond series.

Children's literature often makes fantastic movies that the whole family unit can take pleasure in. Reading the books all together and watching the movies together make for great family leisure and great reminiscences.

Short And Sweet Movie Reviews

By Emily Jones

In the past you had to go to a store if you wanted to rent or buy a movie. You can now save a trip to the video store and download movies right off the internet. You can get virtually any movie you want with a good movie download site. Here are some examples.

Deep Impact: Stimulating yam in reference to tries to repel a comet hurtling toward World--and arrangements to spare as numerous individuals as probable if it hits. Freeman is the rock-solid U.S. President, Duvall a war horse astronaut on a space mission to burst the comet; their authoritative presence adds mass to this fable, when, Leoni appears a tad of a flyweight as the ambitious Television newswoman who cracks the tale. Cast includes Robert Duvall, Tea Leoni, Elijah Wood, Vanessa Redgrave, Morgan Freeman, Ron Eldard, and Charles Martin. (120 minutes, 1998)

Deliverance: This is an excellent re-creation of the Dickey novel of 4 Atlanta businessmen who get more than they can handle throughout a weekend canoe trip. McKinney and Coward are 2 of the most horrifying film scoundrels in history. The "Dueling Banjos" scene is very memorable. Film debuts of Beatty and Cox. James Dickey adjusted his own novel, and appears in the film as a sheriff. Ed O'Neill appears as a freeway watcher near end of film. Cast includes Cast includes Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox, Billy McKinney, Herbert "Dude" Coward, and James Dickey. (109 minutes, 1972)

Carlito's Way: Just out of prison on a technicality, heroin trafficker Carlito vows to go straight. He invests in a club, and starts saving money for a move to the Bahamas, and a new life. His problem is that his past won't leave him alone, and he gets drawn back into that violent world.

Live Fetish: Infatuated child of a prostitute is incarcerated for unintentionally shooting and paralyzing a cop throughout. Originally beaming story of man teenager's identity emergency gets to be ponderous while it turns into a mom -child soap opera with incestuous implications. Cinematically stimulating, albeit, with a bravura finale. Cast includes Pedro Almodovar, Liberto Rabal, Francesca Neri, Javier Bardem, Angela Molina, Jose Sancho, and Penelope Cruz. (100 minutes, 1997)

The Flintstons: Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble both work at Slate and Co. rock mines, and are your ordinary family men. The only difference is that they live in the stone ages. Life in the stone ages is no different than now, and soon Fred finds that he is being set up to be the fall guy in a big embezzlement scheme.

D2: The Mighty Ducks: Hockey player Gordon Bombay is out for the year with a knee injury. Surprisingly he is given the job of head coach of Team USA for The Goodwill Games coming up. Many of the players are former Mighty Ducks players. Can they come together to pull off a big upset and win the world championships?

The Dead Pool: 'Dirty Harry' Callahan is a tough cop who does things his own way. He now finds himself wrapped up in a new mess. A list of celebrities has been made, and when people on this list start dying under suspicious circumstances, Dirty Harry is called in to investigate. There is one more problem for Harry. He is also on the list.

The Priests Wife: Hardly amusing blend of tirade and humor with Loren as disenchanted singer who imagines she could persuade pastor Mastroianni to acquire discharge from his promise of celibacy and wed her. Weightier addressing of topic might be heard on stereo chat shows; film appears laid out barely as car for 2 megastars. Cast includes Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, Venantino Venantini, Jacques Stany, Pippo Starnazza, and Augusto Mastrantoni. (106 minutes, 1971)

Delta Farce: 3 stupid army reservists, informed they are being sent to Iraq, are as an alternative dropped into the Mexican desert, where Larry and his friends Everett and Bill evidently Moe and Curly were unavailable go into motion contrary to corrupt police that they blunder for Middle Eastern terrorists. Give this mind-numbingly dumb trip points for creativity: it's possibly the first and with any luck last lame-brained comedy to try milking snickers from replicated references to Shiites and Kurds! Cast includes Larry the Cable Man, Bill Engvall, DJ Qualls, Keith David, Danny Trejo, Marisol Nichols, and Glenn Morshower. (90 minutes, 2007)

Remember, be creative and use phrases like "Direct Movie Downloads". Try a new phrase if that one did not work. You should punch in "View Movies Online" for another set of results.
